A 4-week camp for children ages 5 to 12 that operates at the beginning of summer, Monday thru Friday from 9am to 3pm. In the first year of camp, 2004, Zócalo served 40 children. In 2011, 255 children attended.
Families of the children served can scarcely afford basic necessities, and they certainly have a difficult time providing for childcare during the summer when school is out. Therefore, Zócalo Day Camp meets a very real need for these families. In addition, most of the children served do not have the opportunity to experience some of the best advantages of living in Colorado – the mountains, zoo, and museums.
However, because of Zócalo and the generous support of financial partners, these children benefit from exercise, fresh air, literacy, exposure to the arts and healthy meals for four weeks out of the summer, all at little to no cost to the parents.
